The Department of Physician Assistant Studies is seeking an innovative, dynamic individual to serve as the Director of Experiential Learning in its developing physician assistant program. We invite you to become a member of an interprofessional education team of faculty and clinicians in a team-oriented environment. The didactic portion of the educational program comprises a strong experiential component, including problem-based learning, simulation, SP encounters, and direct patient care.

Responsibilities Summary:

This is a 12-month, FT, faculty position. Assistant/associate professor rank TBD by qualifications. Tenure or non-tenure tracks available. Opportunities for clinical practice and professional development available.

The Director of Experiential Learning will:

  • Work with the Department Chair and Director of Didactic Education to coordinate and ensure cohesiveness of the didactic curriculum.
  • Collaborate with faculty to support the development and implementation of experiential components within the Clinical Decision Making courses.
  • Review student performance in experiential learning activities and promote improvements.
  • Serve as an important resource to faculty/staff regarding the use and integration of simulation, PBL, and experiential learning activities.
  • Advise students and promote professional development
  • Teach and assess students

Qualifications - Required: The successful candidates must possess a Master’s degree (doctoral degree preferred) and experience in a clinical healthcare-related field involving direct patient care. Current certification by the NCCPA or an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board and eligibility for licensure in the state of North Carolina is required of all physician assistant and physician applicants, respectively.

Highly-qualified applicants will possess the following: exceptional communication skills, proficiency in educational technology, educational experiences beyond the minimum requirements, prior experience in classroom or clinical teaching, a strong record of clinical practice experience, and ability to advance the mission of the department, school and University.

The successful candidate will be part of a future team of 8 full-time faculty and 1 part-time medical director responsible for anticipated implementation of the program beginning in June of 2015 with an inaugural class of 20 students.
