Responsibilities

  • Analyze data and develop reporting strategies for educational quality improvement, accreditation and scholarly activities.
  • Design and offer feedback on student evaluations for all courses in the curricula for the Physician Assistant Program.
  • Work collaboratively with other SOM programs such as MD, DPT in interprofessional course offerings.
  • Serve as a consultant to PA Program faculty and staff on assessment and evaluation activities and strategies that employ a variety of measures of knowledge, skills, attitudes and behavior. Consult with faculty on ways to improve course tests.
  • Develop course evaluation and assessment tools based on defined goals and objectives.
  • Recommend exam software and other evaluative technology to assess student learning.
  • Compose formative and summary written analyses of evaluation work conducted, to enhance program understanding of implemented change.

 

Teaching Activities

  • Participate in teaching activities to include lectures, small group facilitation, grading patient assessment and counseling course assignments.
  • Serve as an advisor to students.

 

Committee Service

  • Serve on division, department, school and medical center committees as requested.
  • Attend student-faculty, faculty, curriculum, progress and promotions and admissions meetings.
  • Chair the PA Program Assessment and Evaluation Committee.

The MSPAS program has a HRSA ARRA Training in Primary Medicine and Dentistry: Physician Assistant Training in Primary Care grant. http://www.carrollu.edu. The program is located in a state of the art, 55,000 sq. ft. interdisciplinary graduate teaching and research facility. This facility provides comprehensive teaching and laboratory space specifically designed for the MSPAS program.

Responsibilities: 

  • Primary responsibilities include oversight of ongoing curriculum development, implementation and assessment, preparation of accreditation materials. The didactic coordinator is also responsible for the coordination of course directors and adjunct faculty providing the oversight and resources necessary to facilitate mentorship resulting in successful course outcomes. Teaching load will include Patient Assessment, Clinical Decision Making and Clinical Medicine. Additional teaching load may include courses outside of the individual's area of content expertise. Opportunities for clinical practice, grant development and involvement in local and international service learning initiatives are available. Candidates who are innovative and value a dynamic and comprehensive approach to curriculum, instruction, and physician assistant practice in an interdisciplinary environment are encouraged to apply.  

Qualifications:

  • The candidate must be a NCCPA board certified physician assistant with a terminal degree (PhD, MSPAS or MPAS) and must have experience teaching in an accredited physician assistant program. Experience with didactic coordination is preferred. Current physician assistant licensure or eligibility for licensure is required. Additionally, a minimum of five years clinical experience is desired.

Responsibilities: 

A Physician Assistant Program faculty member is responsible for imparting academic knowledge and a clinical perspective to students. The faculty member is a team member, although under the general supervision of the Director of Didactic Education.

Essential duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Satisfactory completion of tasks assigned by the Director of Didactic Education or his/her designee, such as a Course Coordinator.
  • Didactic instruction within the PA Program curriculum.
  • Development of behavioral learning objectives consistent with the missions of the PA Program and the terminal graduate PA competencies noted by the NCCPA.
  • Function as a professional role model, academic advisor and referral resource.
  • Active participation on designated PA committees such as Self-Study, Curriculum, etc.
  • Participating in PA curriculum development.
  • Maintaining a current PA Florida or USVI license.
  • Professional and ethical conduct.
  • Diversity is encouraged.
  • Administrative duties to be assigned.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a MS/MA degree and a PA certificate of MD degree. Current Florida licensure or eligibility is required, as is current NCCPA certification for physician Assistant faculty member. A minimum of five years of clinical experience is desired.

Other qualifications and skills include:

  • Ability to read and interpret scientific journals.
  • Ability to demonstrate and teach clinical reasoning.
  • Ability to represent the profession and the Barry University PA Program to the community.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, administrators, and support staff in a dynamic multi-cultural environment.
