Arcadia University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Health Sciences.

The Dean of The College of Health Sciences is responsible for overseeing four programs including 50 faculty and staff in Community and Global Public Health, Genetic Counseling, Physical Therapy, Medical Sciences (Physician Assistant), and as well as dual degree programs at the graduate level and undergraduate public health minors.

Reporting to the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is responsible for recruiting and retaining qualified faculty; managing the resources of the College; leading the faculty in strategic planning; fostering intra- and inter-departmental relationships to enhance academic programs, expanding existing programs by increasing enrollment, developing new clinical affiliations and cultivating new programs in the health sciences. In addition, the Dean works with the faculty and chairs to maintain full accreditation for all professional programs, advises senior administration on innovations in health care delivery and education, and enhances the visibility and recognition of the school. The Dean will work with the administration and institutional advancement to acquire external resources to support the schoolís initiatives and programs. This position is a full-time, 12 month appointment.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have an appropriate terminal degree or doctorate from an accredited graduate institution in a health profession or science with a strong record of university teaching, scholarship, and service sufficient to warrant an appointment as a full professor in the School; at least three years of successful administrative experience in higher education at the level of department chair or higher; and detailed knowledge and experience with student learning outcomes assessment and accreditation.

The ideal candidate will have the following: a strong commitment to shared governance, global health education, and cultural diversity; a collegial leadership style that fosters collaborative working relations with faculty, students, staff, alumni and others; teaching experience at the graduate and undergraduate levels; and a demonstrated commitment to delivering programs in various formats including distance learning.

Executive Director


Kean University (A Developing PA Program)

Under the direction of the Dean, the Executive Director will establish a new Physician Assistant Studies Program which includes designing and implementing curriculum for a M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies and preparing for the ARC-PA accreditation site visit in September 2016. As the academic and administrative leader of the school, the Executive Director manages all school activities including the development and implementation of school policies and procedures; manages the hiring process for all school personnel; manages the evaluation process for all school faculty and staff; prepares and manages the academic advisement and support plan for all programs within the school; and does related work as required. The Executive Director is expected to create and implement a marketing and student recruitment plan; establish collaborative relationships with key stakeholders at the university and in the region; and obtain necessary program approvals from regulatory bodies and accreditation from ARC-PA. The Executive Director may be required to teach two in-load courses each semester (spring and fall) in addition to assigned managerial duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree, Doctoral M.D. or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and a minimum of three years of progressive experience in higher education or a related environment combining academic instruction, scholarly attainment and administration or the equivalent as determined by the university
  • Experience in related management fields, research organizations or not-for-profit entities is also acceptable
  • Must have a documented record of professional, academic and administrative achievement in physician assistant education, including clinical practice and a license to practice in New Jersey or ability to obtain licensure in New Jersey
  • Physician Assistants must be NCCPA-certified; Physicians must be board certified

Job Description Summary:

The University of La Verne, in La Verne, California, is searching for an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the founding director for a physician assistant masters degree program.

The founding director will work closely with the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences in the development and implementation of the new program. The University of La Verne is a 123-year old, independent, comprehensive, doctoral granting institution in southern California with a strong emphasis on academic excellence and an increasing commitment to research and publications. The main campus is located in La Verne, a small town of 34,000 people in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, east of Los Angeles. The program director will be responsible for achieving and maintaining program provisional accreditation. Reporting directly to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the program director will provide leadership for the academic program by facilitating the development of the curriculum and assisting faculty members in their teaching duties and development. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in management in a higher education setting, and must be either NCCPA or board-certified MD/DO. A current PA license is required. The ideal candidate will have documented academic PA program teaching experience as a principal program faculty, and at least five years clinical and/or academic experience as a PA or MD/DO.

Specific Duties:

Program Director

Francis Marion University invites applications for a 12-month, tenure-track position as the director of a new MS in Physician Assistant Studies program at FMU. The director will be responsible for hiring new faculty and ensuring the program meets expectations for accreditation by ARC-PA before a projected start date of August 2016.  This is an exciting opportunity for a PA with teaching and administrative experience to develop a new program which will emphasize preparing students for rural practice.
