Web-based Physician Assistant
Clinical Knowledge Rating and Assessment
Tool
Features of
ePackrat
-
The new FAQ section covers questions related to technical problems, sessions, administering the test, test results, and reports.
-
PACKRAT is a tool that should be used to evaluate student strengths and weaknesses. It should not be used as the sole summative evaluation tool to meet accreditation standards, but it can be used with other program measures to satisfy this requirement.
-
e-PACKRAT scores are provided immediately to programs.
-
The exam’s electronic format prepares students to take the certification exam by simulating the computer format students will encounter when taking their boards.
-
Test scores are accessible on the Web and downloadable into data files for programs’ use and analysis.
-
The exam will continue to feature 225 questions and follow the current NCCPA blueprint. As in the past, it will provide relevant and comprehensive content with the blueprint content areas.
Several studies have demonstrated a
relationship between student scores on PACKRAT
and performance on the Physician Assistant
National Certifying Examination (PANCE). For
example, a study by the Interservice PA
Program concluded that
"PACKRAT scores proved to have a strong
predictive value of student pass/fail
performance on the PANCE."1 Another
study by DeSales University PA
Program showed that the
students' scores on the PACKRAT exam were a
good predictor of performance on the
PANCE.2
The exam will also continue to be
available in the paper format. The cost of
e-PACKRAT for either the electronic or paper
format is $40, plus shipping and handling.
As of June 2009 non-PAEA members will be able to purchase the PACKRAT exam for their PA program. The cost of the exam for non-members is $45.00. Non-member data will not be combined with PAEA member program data.
