PAEA Nominations Committee Seeks Three Members

The Association is seeking applications to fill three member positions on its new Nominations Committee. In response to a request from the committee, the former Nominations and Awards Committee was split by the board into two discrete committees to better accommodate its separate functions. Several members from the former Nominations and Awards Committee have elected to serve on the newly formed Awards Committee, leaving three openings on the Nominations Committee.

The Nominations Committee will meet by conference calls, as needed, during the spring and early summer, with the possibility of one in-person meeting annually. Members should have the flexibility to participate regularly in conference calls and e-mail exchanges.

Responsibilities:
The Nominations Committee has been charged with identifying qualified candidates for PAEA office through a fair, inclusive, and transparent process. To accomplish this, the committee

  • Reexamines the Association's bylaws, policies, and procedures to identify barriers to entry of qualified candidates and any ambiguities that might exist in current policies
  • Considers other issues important to the nominations process

Requirements:

  • Five years’ experience as a faculty member in a PAEA member program
  • Two years’ experience as a member of the board of directors or on a PAEA committee, task force, or workgroup

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of PAEA’s mission, goals, and values

The Awards Committee will develop and oversee a fair and inclusive process to recognize the significant contributions of PAEA members through annual awards. To accomplish this, the committee will

  • Assess current awards
  • Make recommendations to the board, as appropriate, for new awards or recognition that may be desirable for the organization

Requirements for Chair Position:

  • Two years’ experience as a faculty member in a PAEA member program
  • Two years’ experience as a member of a PAEA committee, task force, or workgroup

Requirements for Member Positions:

  • Two years’ experience as a faculty member in a PAEA member program

General Requirements for All PAEA Committees:

PAEA members may apply for any number of posted positions although they may accept only one appointment.

Terms

  • Terms for all member positions are for two years, beginning on January 1, 2009, and ending December 31, 2010
  • All terms are renewable once, based upon the recommendation of the chair of the committee to the board of directors
  • Renewal of terms for chairs is made upon the recommendation of the PAEA Board of Directors
  • Members in good standing will be invited by their chairs to remain on the committee at the completion of their first terms and need not reapply

Funding

  • Meetings held in conjunction with the PAEA Annual Education Forum are not funded
  • Members are reimbursed for their travel, lodging, and meals for meetings held outside of the PAEA Annual Education Forum

General Requirements

  • Members actively contribute to carrying out the charges of the group
  • Members agree to participate in scheduled conference calls and in-person meetings
  • Members meet agreed-upon deadlines for assignments
  • Members are expected to function well as team players
