APTR Plans the Paul Ambrose Scholars Program for Students

The Association for Prevention Teaching and Research (APTR) is planning its seventh annual Paul Ambrose Scholars Program (PASP). PASP introduces health professions students to influential public health professionals and prepares them to be leaders in addressing public health challenges. This experience provides scholarships for 40 students to attend a three-day leadership symposium and conduct a funded community-based health education project in their communities or institutions. Applications will be released on December 10. Interested students should call (202) 463-0550 for more information and may request a copy of the application by e-mailing training@aptrweb.org.

Faculty Invited to Submit Abstracts for AAPA's 17th Annual Clinical and Professional Poster Session

The AAPA is extending an invitation to PAs to submit abstracts of original research, clinical reports, case studies, educational research, and previously presented posters for the 17th Annual Clinical and Professional Poster Session at its 36th Annual PA Conference in San Antonio. PA educators and students are strongly encouraged to submit abstracts for the PA Education and Student Research galleries. For more information, contact Cheryl Holmes, at cholmes@aapa.org or (703) 836-2272, ext. 3419, or visit the AAPA Web site at http://www.aapa.org/clinissues/PosterSession.htm. Please see more about the poster session at this link. The deadline to submit abstracts is Friday, January 11.

AAPA Institutes Change to Student Membership

The AAPA has instituted a major change in response to students’ concerns about the cost and timing of converting their membership to fellow membership immediately following graduation. Effective immediately, student membership will expire four months after a student’s date of graduation. This will allow recent graduates to take the PANCE and secure employment before converting to AAPA fellow membership, should they choose to do so.

AAPA requests that faculty pass this information on to their students. Any questions or concerns can be directed to membership@aapa.org or (703) 836-2272, ext. 3350.
