Keynote Address: What Would a Physician Shortage Mean for PA Programs?

The keynote address at the 2006 PAEA Education Forum will cover an important issue that will interest PA faculty around the country: the implications for the PA profession of a projected shortage of physicians over the next few years. Edward Salsberg, director of the Center for Workforce Studies at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) in Washington, D.C., will deliver the address, “The Expected Physician Shortage: Implications for the Physician Assistant Workforce,” at the 2006 PAEA Education Forum.

Mr. Salsberg is a frequent speaker on physician workforce issues and has authored numerous reports and papers on the health workforce. Prior to joining AAMC in 2004, Mr. Salsberg was the executive director and founder of the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the School of Public Health at the University at Albany of the State University of New York (SUNY).

Mr. Salsberg has been a member of the U.S. delegation to the International Medical Workforce Collaborative since 1999 and served on the steering committee of the National Academy for State Health Policy from 1995 till 2004. He has been a member of the American Hospital Association’s Commission on Workforce for Hospitals and Health Systems and was a Bureau Director at the New York State Department of Health for more than 10 years.
