Motions Due August 15 for 2007 Annual Business Meeting

Motions to be considered at the 2007 PAEA Annual Business Meeting are due in the national office by August 15. The Governance Committee has moved the date up from previous years in order to allow for a more rigorous review process in advance of the meeting. It is hoped that this will help provide more information to members on the implications of each motion and allow for more focused debate on the floor of the business meeting.

When motions are received, they will undergo a financial impact review by the Finance Committee. The Governance Committee will consider the Finance Committee’s report and other implications of the motion at a “reference committee” style meeting in early September. If motions are found not to be consistent with PAEA bylaws, policies, or procedures, the Governance Committee will work with motions’ authors to modify the language, while retaining the author’s intent. All final motions will be published in the October Networker and other Association communications vehicles. If appropriate, a statement concerning the motion’s financial or other implications will be appended to the motion.

In order for a motion to be automatically considered at the business meeting, a motion form must be submitted to the PAEA national office by the August 15 deadline. Motions that are not received by this date will be considered on a time-available basis and are subject to a two-thirds majority vote on the floor of the business meeting to be considered.
