PAEA Seeks Members for Three Committees: the CECD, Governance, and the International Affairs Committee

Committee on Ethnic and Cultural Diversity

The Association is seeking applications to fill two member positions on its Committee on Ethnic and Cultural Diversity (CECD). The charge of the committee is to advocate for the underrepresented and/or economically disadvantaged; to promote culturally competent education; to increase the recruitment and retention of ethnically and culturally diverse faculty and students; to increase awareness of health disparities; and to serve as mentors and role models in education, the profession, and the community.

The CECD is dedicated to working towards achieving the following goals:

  • Advocate for cultural competency in PA education by providing resources to PA programs and creating educational offerings to highlight strategies for increasing enrollment, retention, and graduation of underrepresented minority and disadvantaged students
  • Serve as a resource on minority faculty and students in PA education through database development on diversity
  • Enhance the integrity of minority data collection efforts with the PA profession in order to further research and identify recruitment and training needs of the profession

Applicants should have previous experience with ethnic and cultural issues in PA education and be interested in advancing the work of the committee.

The committee meets annually at the PAEA Annual Education Forum in addition to a minimum of one onsite meeting each year at the PAEA national office. Conference calls are held on a monthly basis.

Governance Committee

The Association is seeking applications to fill two member positions on its Governance Committee. The committee oversees the governance structure of the Association, including membership, voting representation, policies and procedures, and bylaws and makes recommendations to improve the effectiveness of PAEA’s governance.

This committee meets annually at the PAEA Annual Education Forum in addition to a minimum of one onsite meeting each year at the PAEA national office. Conference calls are held as needed.

Applicants must have five or more years’ experience in a PA educational setting. A strong interest in governance, policies, and procedures is required; experience in governance is preferred. Previous PAEA committee service is desirable, but not required.

International Affairs Committee

The Association is seeking applications to fill one member position on its International Affairs Committee. The committee's standing charge is to identify, promote, and facilitate opportunities for PAEA members, students, and the Association to participate in global education efforts related to the PA profession. The committee also develops resources and expands support for PAEA member programs' involvement internationally.

This committee is active throughout the year and meets annually at the PAEA Annual Education Forum and through conference calls as needed.

Applicants to the International Affairs Committee should have strong communication and interpersonal skills and experience with international PA education.

The following information applies to all vacancies described above.

Terms

  • Terms for these member positions will begin immediately and end on December 31, 2010.
  • All terms are renewable once, based upon the recommendation of the chair of the committee to the board of directors.
  • Members in good standing will be invited by their chairs to remain on the committee at the completion of their first terms and need not reapply.
Funding
  • Meetings held in conjunction with the PAEA Annual Education Forum are not funded.
  • Members are reimbursed for their travel, lodging, and meals for meetings held outside of the PAEA Annual Education Forum.
General Requirements
  • Members actively contribute to carry out the charges of the group.
  • Members agree to participate in scheduled conference calls and in onsite meetings. (In addition to the conference calls, committees may hold in-person meetings once a year besides those held in conjunction with the annual forum).
  • Members meet agreed-upon deadlines for assignments.
  • Members are expected to function well as team players.
