Members Will Have Ability to Update PAEA Directory Listings
Spring is traditionally the time when PAEA staff request updated contact information for the PAEA Faculty Directory and the Programs Directory. This year, PAEA is working with a vendor to implement a content management system for its Web site. One of the capabilities of this system will be to allow members to update these directory entries on their own throughout the year. Further information will be sent to all members as the new Web site approaches completion in early summer. A hard copy of the Faculty Directly will continue to be produced, though the timing of this will be delayed slightly this year so that the process can be integrated with the new Web-based membership database.
AAPA Creates Group on Facebook
AAPA is spreading the word to PA faculty and students that it now has an official group on Facebook. This group will allow both PAs and students to establish professional and personal connections. Photos taken and shared by PA attendees at AAPA’s 2008 annual conference will be posted on AAPA’s group on Facebook beginning on May 24. Faculty and students may visit http://www.aapa.org/annual-conf/sanan08/index.php to learn more and join the group.
NCHPEG Calls for Abstracts
The National Coalition for Health Professional Education in Genetics (NCHPEG) has issued a call for abstracts and is accepting submissions electronically on its Web site at www.nchpeg.org. The deadline is May 23. Applicants will be notified of the program committee's decision by e-mail, no later than July 1. NCHPEG cannot accept faxed or scanned forms. Further details are available on their Web site.
Online Application Now Available for National Health Service Corps
The 2008 application for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program is now available in an online format at http://nhsc.bhpr.hrsa.gov/applications/lrp/default.htm. The NHSC recruits fully trained and licensed health professionals, including primary care physician assistants, to provide primary health services in NHSC community sites in selected Health Professional Shortage Areas.
In return, the NHSC Loan Repayment Program assists clinicians in their repayment of qualifying educational loans that are still owed. To be eligible, clinicians must be fully trained, licensed, and working at (or in the final stages of employment negotiations with) an NHSC-eligible facility on the NHSC Opportunities List.
