Moves and Milestones

AAMC Reporter Publishes PAEA Article
PAEA staff members Timi Agar Barwick, executive director, and Steven Lane, associate executive director, recently responded to an invitation by the AAMC to write an article for the January AAMC Reporter feature. The full article, entitled "PAs: Not a Silent Partner," can be viewed at http://www.aamc.org/newsroom/reporter/jan09/viewpoint.htm. The article grew out of a presentation made last year to AAMC staff, part of a renewed effort to improve collaboration and share information between the two organizations.

Kohlhepp Granted Tenure by Quinnipiac University

William C. Kohlhepp, DHSc, PA-C, who was recently granted tenure by Quinnipiac University, credited this achievement, as well as his promotion to associate professor last year, with having earned his doctorate in health sciences at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). Kohlhepp said that although returning to school had been challenging timewise, it had been worth the time and energy and had allowed him to combine program work and coursework. He noted that his practicum at NSU focused on the development of an online curriculum in genomics, which has now been implemented at Quinnipiac. During his internship, he served as a teaching assistant for NSU’s course in medical writing, which gave him a number of tools that he has incorporated into the online resources for courses he teaches at Quinnipiac.

Samuel Merritt College Achieves University Status
Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, California, is now Samuel Merritt University. Its new status reflects the institution's wider mission, vision, and breadth of its undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the health disciplines. In addition to the PA program, Samuel Merritt provides professional education in nursing, physical and occupational therapy, and podiatric medicine.

Do you have news you'd like to share with other faculty members?

PAEA Networker's Moves and Milestones column is designed to help keep members informed about their colleagues’ activities. The column features information on faculty moves and promotions and on significant changes and achievements at member programs. Examples are faculty moving to new positions within the program or elsewhere, grants received, articles or books published, a new track or satellite campus established. We also welcome curricular innovations that may not have the research basis for peer-reviewed publication but that would be of anecdotal interest to PA faculty.

If you have news you would like to share, please send it to Eileen Evans, PAEA Networker managing editor, at eevans@PAEAonline.org; (703) 548-5538, ext. 307. News must be received by the 20th of the month for inclusion in the following month’s issue.
