December 2005 Announcements Physician Assistant Foundation Annual Scholarship Program Since 1989, the Foundation's scholarship program has awarded over $1 million to PA students across the country. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and future goals as a PA. For the 2004-2005 program year, 37 PA students received scholarships. The postmark deadline for 2005-2006 program is February 1, 2006. The application is on-line at www.aapa.org/paf/app-scholarship.html. Please share this link with your students. The application can be accessed and completed on-line, printed, and mailed to the address provided on the application. The PA Program Verification Letter and other requested materials must also be included. All applicants must be enrolled in the professional phase of their PA programs and be student members of the AAPA. Previous PA Foundation scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply again. Each application is reviewed by the Foundation's Scholarship Committee. Awards are made in May of each year. AAPAs 15th Annual Poster Session Call for Abstracts 2005-2006 The 15th Annual Clinical and Professional Poster Session is among the exciting events scheduled for AAPAs 34th Annual PA Conference in San Francisco. Coordinated by the AAPA Clinical and Scientific Affairs Council (CSAC), it features posters in three categories: original research, case studies/clinical reports, and previously presented posters. PA educators are encouraged to submit abstracts by January 2, 2006, on educational research and curricular innovations. PA students are also encouraged to participate and submit their research for the Student Research Gallery that will showcase research projects and assignments in PA education courses. This session offers unique opportunities for PAs and PA faculty to present and discuss their research, interesting cases, or programs with colleagues and other conference attendees. All submitted abstracts must be authored or co-authored by a PA or PA student who is a current member of AAPA. The easy submission process is done entirely on-line. AAMC Seeks Applicants for International Clinical Research Training Fellowship The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) is seeking applicants for an international clinical research training fellowship for graduate-level health professions students. The program is sponsored by the National Institutes of Healths (NIH) Fogarty International Center, in partnership with the Ellison Medical Foundation, the NIH National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, the NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the NIH National Institute on Drug Abuse. The AAMC and the Association of Schools of Public Health manage the program, which is in its third year. This one-year program provides students with mentored research training at top-ranked NIH-funded research centers in countries including Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, China, Haiti, India, Kenya, Mali, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, and Zambia.
