APAP Welcomes New Staff Member

Sam Kang will soon join the APAP staff as the Association’s education services manager. Sam will manage and implement initiatives related to APAP’s Education Committee, the Faculty Development Institute, and PACKRAT, and will assist the executive director in overseeing the Central Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA).

Sam recently completed his graduate work at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he received a master of science degree in public policy and management from the H. John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management. As a graduate student, he was public relations director and research analyst for his group thesis project, Fair Representation on Boards, Authorities, and Commissions. His academic background encompasses a wealth of training in statistical analysis, information systems, and organizational design. Sam earned a bachelor of arts degree in English, with a concentration in rhetoric, from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Sam was a community outreach intern at the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh’s GlobalPittsburgh Network during his last few months at Mellon. He has also worked at PR Newswire, where he edited and distributed public affairs and financial information via the electronic wire to the media and the public. From September 1997 through November 1999, Sam was a Peace Corps volunteer, stationed in Gulistan, Uzbekistan, where he taught English as a foreign language. He also had an opportunity to collaborate with local government and school officials to plan and implement community service projects.

Sam joins Timi Agar Barwick, executive director; Steven Lane, director, communications and information services; Geraldene Darden, assistant director, marketing; Eileen Evans, administrator; and Paxton Styles, coordinator. APAP staff are looking forward to working with Sam, and faculty will have a chance to introduce themselves to him in Puerto Rico.
