September 2004 Announcements

Appointment of APAP Representative to NCCPA

Mark P. Christiansen, MS, MPAS, PA-C, clinical coordinator of the University of Nebraska Medical Center PA Program, was appointed APAP’s representative to the Board of Directors of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). His experience includes over 25 years as a practicing PA and ten years as a PA educator. He has just completed his second term as a member of one of NCCPA’s test writing committees. He has also served on other NCCPA committees that deal directly with board issues.

With his involvement at NCCPA, he has become very experienced in the statistical analysis of their tests and the research that they do on the exams and the profession. APAP welcomes Mark and looks forward to working with him in the coming years as he represents the PA profession as both an educator and practitioner.

Electronic Syllabus for Education Forum

Just like the Semi Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, APAP will have an on-line electronic syllabus. Syllabus materials will be available through the APAP’s Web site. Materials will be posted online in Adobe Acrobat format in early to mid-October and will remain on APAP’s Web site for one year. Session attendees are instructed to allow plenty of time to print out the syllabus submissions for those sessions they will be attending in Nashville before they arrive at conference.

Remember: November 2 is Election Day!

If you are traveling to conference, please make sure to register for your absentee ballot in advance.

National Physician Assistant Week, OCTOBER 6-12

At its meeting in June, the AAPA House of Delegates voted to change the traditional PA Day celebration to Physician Assistant Week, October 6-12.
This celebration honors all PAs for the quality care they provide to millions of Americans.

The AAPA Public Relations Committee has created a PA Week Resource Guide to assist PAs and PA students in planning local PA Week activities. This special section of the AAPA Web site is where you'll find numerous event ideas, draft news releases, public service announcements, and proclamations. You can read it all at http://www.aapa.org/pa-week.html.

Support your profession by recognizing National PA Week by also visiting the AAPA Store today at http://www.aapa.org/aapastore. Click on PA Week to view and order your PA Week collectibles while supplies last!
