Enhanced Faculty
Skills Development Workshop

November 3, 2004

[Registration Form] [Participant Information Form

APAP invites you to participate in a new workshop, Enhanced Faculty Skills: Creative Strategies for Instruction, Assessment, and Feedback, sponsored by the APAP Faculty Development Institute. The Enhanced Faculty Skills Workshop will be held on November 3, 2004, in Nashville, Tennessee.

First priority for attendance will be given to graduates of Basic Skills workshop, although other faculty who are interested in this topic are also invited to register. The purpose of this workshop is to enhance the skills of faculty with participatory learning experiences designed to contribute to job satisfaction and success in the academic environment. Participants will have the opportunity to share and experience a variety of creative strategies for enhanced instruction, assessment, and student feedback. There is a strong emphasis on the use of resources and networking for program development. Whenever possible, unique situations and questions submitted by the participants will be used for
small-group, problem-solving exercises.

As you know, the transition from clinical to academic medicine can be a difficult one, and the recent dramatic increase in the number of new programs has contributed to a shortage of trained PA faculty. The talented individuals recruited from clinical practice bring valuable expertise and experience to their positions, but they are often unprepared for the demands of academic medicine. The Basic Skills and Enhanced Skills workshops offered by the APAP Faculty Development Institute are designed to help bridge the gap from clinical practice to a career in academic medicine.

Some of the “hands on” topics we are considering for presentation are:

  • Test Construction and Item Writing
  • Refining Your Course Objectives
  • Case Studies for Faculty Development
  • Evaluating Course Outcomes
  • Using Educational Research for Professional Publication and Scholarship

We would also like to provide an opportunity for you to request any topic you would like to have addressed during the workshop. Please include this information with the enclosed registration material. Your feedback is extremely important in making the workshop a true success.

To maintain a small-group atmosphere, one in which participants will feel free to share challenges and successes from their own institutions, the workshop will be limited to the first 25 registrants. The registration fee is $275. Breakfast and afternoon snack are included in this fee. Please complete and return the registration form, the participant information sheet, and a brief statement of your goals as a faculty member to APAP as soon as possible to secure your spot.
