The annual APAP Education Forum is the premier professional meeting of PA educators in the country, typically attended by more than 300 leading faculty members from PA programs all over the country.

The educational program will feature several days of workshops, roundtables, and pearls on almost every PA educational topic under the sun, as well as three add-on workshops from APAP’s Faculty Development and Research Institutes. This year these workshops will cover program director skills, basic faculty skills, and the expectations and skills surrounding the production of scholarly work — something that more and more of us are challenged to do these days.

Our keynote speaker this year will cover a timely topic that should be of interest to all PA educators: cultural competence and health care disparities. Joseph Betancourt, MD, MPH, a professor at Harvard Medical School and a noted researcher on health disparities, will discuss the 2002 Institute of Medicine report “Unequal Treatment,” and ask the question, “What is cultural competence, and does it really matter?”

And as always, the APAP Education Forum will be a wonderful opportunity to greet old friends, make new ones, and just be around people who understand what you do and share your daily challenges and joys. The sun-soaked beaches and leafy poolside patios of the El Conquistador resort should be a nice bonus as well.

Registration materials were mailed to all APAP members in early July. You can also download all of the forms and information above. If you have questions, please contact Paxton Styles at pstyles@aapa.org.
