Call for Papers, Posters, and Abstracts for the
2003 Education Forum

The Research and Review Committee encourages all APAP faculty members to consider submitting posters or papers for presentation at the 2003 Education Forum, October 22-26, in Phoenix, Arizona. The following topics will be considered:

  1. Any aspect of physician assistant education
  2. The professional role of the PA
  3. The delivery of health care in connection with physician assistants
  4. Health care issues
  5. General interest or topics of practical use to the PA profession

Original work can be presented at the APAP Education Forum in one of two ways:

  1. As a 10-minute presentation; or
  2. As a poster display. Poster displays accepted for this meeting will also be invited for display at the AAPA conference in May 2004.

Empirical studies reporting original research, review articles evaluating material previously published, and theoretical or speculative articles to advance theory on education or the profession are all acceptable for submission. Additionally, brief reports and discussions of quantitative research methods may be submitted.

The time allowed for paper presentations will be 10 minutes, with 5 additional minutes for questions and discussion. The deadline for submission of papers and posters is August 8, 2003. First authors will be notified of reviewers’ decisions by September 8.

Format for Posters

  1. Separate title page with the author identified by name, title, and address.
  2. Three-hundred word abstract for review.

To Submit a Proposal to Present Your Original Work (10 minutes)…

Your proposal to present your original work can be made in the form of a paper or an abstract. The requested submission format for each is listed below:

Format for Papers

  1. Papers must include a title page with the author identified by name, title, and address.
  2. Sections of the paper should be identified according to the type of paper submitted:

    (a)

     

    For reports of empirical studies, the paper should have the following identified sections: (i) statement of the problem and introduction; (ii) method of investigation; (iii) results; and (iv) discussion and conclusions.
    (b) For review articles, the paper should have the following identified sections: (i) definition and clarification of the problem; (ii) summary of previous investigations; (iii) identification of relations, contradictions, and consistencies in the literature; and (iv) suggestions for the next stages in solving the problem.
    (c) For theoretical articles, sections may follow (b) above or have another logical and coherent structure.
  3. Papers must be letter quality. Ten or 12 characters per inch of type is acceptable. Margins should be 1.5" on the left and 1" on the top, right, and bottom.
  4. Single space text; double space between paragraphs.
  5. List all references.
  6. An abstract must be included (300 word limit) utilizing the section suggestions listed above in requirement #2.

Format for Abstracts

  1. Separate title page with the author identified by name, title, and address
  2. One typed page following the identified sections suggested in requirement #2 for papers (listed above)
  3. Same print specifications as for paper

Criteria for Selection
For papers, posters, and abstracts, criteria will include:

  1. Relevance to PA education or practice
  2. Scientific quality of scholarly rigor
  3. Clarity of thought
  4. Technical composition/style
  5. Organization of material to be presented

Only electronic submissions are accepted. Preferred method of submission is by e-mail attachment; however, submissions will be accepted on floppy, Zip drive, or CD-ROM digital media. Please indicate when submitting whether the proposal is for a poster display or formal presentation. All submissions should be sent no later than August 8, 2003, to:
