Research Institute Workshop:
“Developing and Implementing an Effective Research Curriculum”

October 22, 2003

[Registration Form

APAP cordially invites you to attend the Research Institute workshop, “Developing and Implementing an Effective Research Curriculum,” to be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2003, during the Education Forum in Phoenix, Arizona. This workshop will provide faculty members with the skills to develop a high quality research curriculum.

The workshop is offered in response to a 2002 Research Institute survey that asked program directors to suggest research oriented curricula that APAP might make available for faculty development. Ninety program directors responded (approximately a 70% response rate), and the topic area that ranked highest was instruction in proposal development. Last year’s Research Institute workshop, “Designing and Writing a Successful Research Proposal,” addressed this. The workshop was very well attended, and participants gave it favorable evaluations. The second most highly ranked topic in the survey was research curriculum design, featured in this year’s workshop.

During this workshop, participants will learn to:

  • Identify the essential components of graduate level education as currently described in the United States and describe how each fits into a variety of research curricular models.
  • Compare and contrast professional graduate education with professional academic education.
  • List multiple models of current PA graduate education and describe the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  • Describe the specific curriculum for each current model of PA graduate research education.
  • Describe various models for independent student projects typically expected in graduate level education.
  • List common pitfalls associated with the addition of a graduate research curriculum and propose preventive or corrective solutions.

Complete the attached registration form (by clicking on the link above) and return it by the September 20, 2003, deadline. Early registration is encouraged. The cost of this workshop is $275 (to be submitted ONLY upon notification of acceptance). Registration fee includes a breakfast and a snack.
