Announces Openings for President Elect and Call for Nominations James F. Cawley, MPH, PA-C The APAP Nominations and Awards Committee is announcing two openings for the board of directors for 2004-05: president elect and director at large. The committee encourages faculty to take an active role in APAPs leadership, either by nominating a colleague or personally considering board service. The membership will vote to fill these positions at the annual Education Forum to be held in Nashville, Tennessee, in early November. Nominations will be accepted through June 15, 2004. At this momentous time in the Associations evolution, service on the board presents an opportunity for APAPs member educators to join a team that is engaged in activities and decisions that will have far-reaching outcomes. Service puts members in the middle of current issues within APAP and PA education, strengthens feelings of community with fellow PA educators, and provides a venue for making contributions to APAP and the profession. Feel free to contact any of the APAP Nominations and Awards Committee members or board members for more information on the rewards and responsibilities of board service. General Eligibility: Any core PA program faculty member (as defined in the Nineteenth Annual Report on Physician Assistant Educational Programs in the United States, 2002-2003, page 15) is eligible for a board position. This includes faculty, staff, medical directors, and program directors. General Responsibilities: The responsibility for operating the Association is delegated by the membership to the board. Individually and collectively, board members are equally responsible for the operation of the Association and have duties outlined in the bylaws and published in the APAP Policies and Procedures Manual. Beyond these responsibilities, board members may choose other activities in which they have an interest and introduce new perspectives or activities to the Association. In addition to attendance at APAP meetings, board members participate in monthly conference calls. Funding: APAP pays all expenses associated with attending board meetings and other required activities, including the Semiannual Meeting and the annual Education Forum. Nominating Procedure: Candidates for office should submit a current curriculum vitae, limited to two pages; a recent photo; and a platform statement, no longer than 400 words. Nominations will be reviewed by the Nominations and Awards Committee for eligibility. Candidates photos, CVs, and platform statements will be published in the July APAP Update. Each candidate will be asked to respond to four questions from the board of directors. Responses will be published in the August and September issues of the Update. A candidates forum, scheduled for Nashville, Tennessee, will provide candidates with the opportunity in the days preceding the election to express their views and respond publicly to members questions.
