Transition Update: Getting Down to Details By Patrick Knott, PhD, PA-C The Associations transition to independent management is moving rapidly into the detail stage. The big things have been done: we have built up our financial reserves, moved our accounting from AAPA to an independent firm, reviewed staffing models and benefits, found an office building, and considered hundreds of other implications the transition will have for our regular operations. We have also changed our name, filed amended articles of incorporation, and commissioned a new logo. Its been a fascinating and rewarding process, driven by a lot of hard work by many people, and its exciting to see the transition start to take tangible shape. The Transition Task Force (TTF) met in Virginia last month to make some final decisions probably the last time it will meet before we move to our new office space, though the transition will not end there. In January we signed the lease on our new office space a 3,000-square-foot, U-shaped suite of offices in a building a few blocks down the street from the AAPAs building in Alexandria, Virginia, where our staff have been housed for many years. Renovations on the new space are well under way and are scheduled to be completed by early March. We are now getting into the nitty-gritty details: selecting paint and carpet, buying computers and furniture, setting up phone and e-mail systems. The PAEA headquarters is becoming a reality. You will also continue to see changes in our Web site and other communications, as we incorporate the new logo and begin overhauling and redesigning our site and our publications. We will be using the results of the recent communications survey to review our Web site and other communications vehicles and make whatever changes we can to foster more effective communication between the Association and its members. Its been a long journey to this point, nearly three years since the vision of independent management first started to take formal shape. Thanks to all of you who have helped in making that vision real. We will keep you updated as the transition continues to unfold.
