Program Director Position

Mercer University is establishing a physician assistant program as a collaborative effort with Piedmont Healthcare and is seeking a dynamic program director to provide leadership in developing and growing this exciting new venture. The program will be based at Mercer University’s Cecil B. Day Campus in Atlanta, Georgia, and will have a first class matriculation target date of fall 2007. The position will be either tenure track or non-tenure track, and will hold academic rank based on credentials. The director is responsible for hiring the faculty and staff, making key decisions related to the curriculum and organization of the program, and guiding the program through the accreditation process. A master’s degree from an accredited university or college is required; a doctorate is preferred. Applicants must be NCCPA-certified physician assistants, be eligible for state licensure in Georgia, and have a minimum of five years’ experience in health care education, preferably physician assistant education. Clinical Coordinator Position

Methodist College announces an opening for a full-time clinical coordinator for its master’s-level PA program. Responsibilities involve all aspects of the clinical year and include site and preceptor evaluations, student evaluations, some administrative responsibilities, teaching assignments, and acting as liaison to preceptors, students, and faculty. Minimum requirements include NCCPA certification, three years’ clinical experience, Master’s degree in a related field, and eligibility for licensure in North Carolina. Clinical Coordinator Position

The Physician Assistant Program in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Quinnipiac University, Hamden, Connecticut, invites applications for a tenure-track clinical coordinator position, beginning late spring 2006. This position answers directly to the program director and is responsible for the second-year students during the clinical phase of their training. Experience in PA education is desirable.

Successful candidates will be expected to identify, develop, schedule, and visit clinical rotation sites. They will function as liaisons/coordinators for preceptors, serve as student advisors, monitor student performance, and identify and address issues that may arise. In addition, candidates will be expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, participate in PA program and university committee work, as well as maintain clinical practice hours.

Qualifications for this position include graduation from an accredited physician assistant program, a minimum of an earned master’s degree, proven teaching experience, current clinical experience, and NCCPA certification and eligibility for licensure in the State of Connecticut.

Job Title: Physician Assistant Faculty (Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with experience)

Qualifications: The candidate should be a NCCPA-certified PA with clinical experience as a practicing PA. Previous teaching experience is desired, but not essential, if clinical experience is very strong. An enthusiastic and personable manner and a strong desire to facilitate and promote PA education is imperative. Master’s degree or higher preferred, but current enrollment or willingness to earn a Master’s shortly after being hired is satisfactory.

Salary and Benefits: Twelve-month, tenure-track position. Salary commensurate with experience. Faculty are encouraged to maintain their clinical skills, and arrangements will be made to accommodate this. Complete benefits package includes health insurance, disability insurance, outstanding retirement package, four weeks vacation, paid CME (for one national and one state meeting per year), and compensation for state licensing fees and professional dues.

Job Responsibilities: PA faculty will work as a team member with the PA program chair and other faculty and staff. The faculty member will be primarily responsible for lecturing in the general medicine curriculum and will also assist with laboratory classes and sessions such as clinical skills. This would include updating course content, as guided by the academic coordinator; establishing behavioral and psychomotor objectives for course performance; and conveying information to the student through lecture and demonstration. This position would also entail student evaluation and include preparing, administering, and scoring laboratory performance and written examinations; observing student laboratory performance and providing immediate feedback; and monitoring and appraising student training performance results.

Other Responsibilities: Advising students and their research projects; individual research; chairing, participation, attendance on committees, as assigned, at departmental, school, and university levels.

Faculty Position

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, School of Allied Health Sciences, Department of Physician Assistant Studies, is accepting applications for an entry-level faculty position. Responsibilities include teaching, service, scholarly activity with a focus on the Department’s supervised clinical practice activities. This includes coordinating student rotations, conducting on-site student evaluations, recruiting rotation sites, and representing the department, school, and university. Participation in our practice plan is possible.

Qualifications: Master’s degree (or degree in progress) from a regionally accredited university or college; graduation from an accredited PA program; NCCPA certification; Texas PA license eligibility; three years of clinical experience (primary care experience desired); evidence of excellent communication skills; must be able to travel frequently throughout South Texas. Salary and appointment dependent on education and experience. Experience in education is not required for this entry-level position.
