APAP Announces the 2004–05 Student Writing Competition

Faculty Announcement | Contest Guidelines

APAP is pleased to announce the 2004–05 cycle of the Student Writing Competition, which provides a venue for PA students to submit original entries on clinical topics featuring their medical writing skills. Formerly known as the J. Peter Nyquist Student Writing Contest, the contest was recently renamed the APAP Student Writing Competition. To memorialize early contributions in support of student writing made by Mr. Nyquist, the student taking first place continues to be designated the J. Peter Nyquist award winner.

The Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (JAAPA) is the sponsor of the competition for a fifth consecutive year with a generous donation of $6,000. An award of $500 will go to the first place winner; second runner-up will receive $300; and the third, $200. Winners will be invited to present their work during APAP’s Semiannual Meeting in Orlando, Florida, from May 27–29, 2005; their meeting registration and lodging expenses will be also be covered.

Continuing his outstanding work with the competition, I. Keir Todd, PA-C, M.Ed., associate professor and clinical project coordinator at the Pacific University PA Program, will once again oversee the competition. APAP will assume responsibility for receiving student entries and assigning reviewers. Todd will adjudicate the process and, with his reviewers, select the winners.

All submissions in this year’s contest must be electronic. Program directors are asked to e-mail endorsements from their own e-mail accounts. Endorsements should verify that the entry is the student’s original work and that the paper was written while the author was a student in the PA program. All student entries, as well as program directors’ endorsements, must be received by February 1, 2005. Please access the full Competition Rules and Guidelines at the links above. All submissions should be sent to
