Basic Skills
Faculty Development Workshop

March 14 –15, 2005

[Registration Form] [Participant Information Form

APAP, through the Faculty Development Institute (FDI), is once again pleased to offer the Basic Skills Faculty Development Workshop, March 14–15, 2005, in Denver, Colorado. This highly interactive workshop has been a perennial favorite since 1997.

Past participants have been overwhelmingly positive in their evaluation of this workshop. One participant stated, “The workshop far exceeded its purpose of providing new faculty with an introduction to the fundamental knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will help me succeed as a faculty member. The interactive nature of the workshop provided me not only with a new perspective on a variety of teaching strategies, but also with a network of other faculty who will serve as a resource for many years to come.”

The workshop will focus on didactic skills and will address many issues including fundamental knowledge and skills in course and curriculum development, the use of various teaching and assessment strategies, student counseling and advising, time management, and the use of technology in teaching, as well as self-assessment and career planning in the academic environment. The workshop will offer an opportunity to explore these issues through an experiential process that includes a variety of adult-centered, active learning techniques that can be readily adapted to the classroom or wider academic setting.

While the number of participants is limited to 25 people, priority will be given to those who were wait-listed for a previous session. Faculty are encouraged to register early. The cost of this workshop is $375 (to be submitted ONLY upon notification of acceptance.) Registration fee includes 2 snacks and 2 breakfasts.

The presenters would like the participants to be the most junior of PA faculty. To participate in this workshop, participants must:

  • Complete the registration form at the link above and return it by the February 4, 2005, deadline (Registration will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register early to secure your spot.)
  • Complete the participant information form at the link above (including the goals statement) and return it by February 4, 2005.
